Biological materials
• Raman spectroscopy is currently not routinely applied to the biological sciences
• NIR and UV laser excitations required for many samples to avoid visible fluorescence from pigmented material (such as vascular tissues)
• Compared to the more established FT-IR method, it has the advantages of being unaffected by water and offering truly confocal analyses
