In the real case paint smear sample discussed, the Raman information allows unequivocal pigment identification, and the FT-IR identification of the lacquer and binder components. Analysis is performed at the same sample location, and avoids time consuming sample transfer and positional referencing. Multiple and independent analysis methods therefore provide the highest identification confidence.
